Overgrown villa pool brought back into use

A pool left to stand for a season: stagnant water, cracked mosaic and self-seeded scrub through the deck. Stripped back to structure, waterproofed, re-tiled and finished with a marble surround and a glass balustrade.

Before & after

Before After
Overgrown villa pool brought back into use. Before: A neglected villa pool with green standing water, cracked blue mosaic and dry scrub growing through the timber deck. After: The same pool after renovation, with deep blue tiling, a white marble deck, a glass balustrade and underwater lighting at dusk.

The challenge

Standing water and plant growth in the deck joints are the visible symptoms; the question underneath is always whether the shell and the waterproofing survived. Nothing decorative goes back until that is answered.

What we did

Drain, strip the failed mosaic, cut out and rebuild the damaged deck edge, apply a new waterproofing system and test it before tiling. Fresh mosaic, marble coping and deck, LED lighting and a glass balustrade to open up the view.

The result

A pool that holds water, a deck that drains away from the shell, and a finish that suits the house it belongs to.
